lcg 9/20 emma

Hello parents,

We are settling into a routine in the Evergreen class. I told them today that they are becoming an older class-- now a "9/10 year old" class. With that comes new privileges-- we started on new soprano recorders today, we got new colored pencils to draw and write with, and we will begin crocheting next week. Along with those special privileges I told them that I would be expecting more of them--expecting them to pay attention and work hard to be member of our class.

I am also stressing that while we are in class we need to to things as a whole, and not talk about things that don't include everyone-- e.g., sleepovers or playdates that don't include everyone, movies or TV shows that not everyone watches, etc.

Onto our day--
We began with our opening verse and singing. Then we passed beanbags to continue learning each others' names, and also did the times tables 2 through 6.

We started form drawing today, a special kind of drawing that is done in Waldorf schools. We will usually do one form drawing a week, but we did three today-- to review for returning students, and to bring new children somewhat up to speed.

For handwork we finished sewing knitted squares together to make a blanket. Danielle Milligan had knitted the squares, and she will see about donating it to a hospice.

At snacktime we celebrated Willi's birthday, lit our birthday candle, and told him our wishes for the year.

We got a brief intro to our new recorders-- starting with that old classic, "Hot Cross Buns."

Then we headed down to Fellowship Hall with the other 3 older classes to practice "Michaelmas" songs that we will sing at the Fall Festival on Sunday. I hope you can join us! We did singing in 4 parts and it was lovely.

Back in the classroom we squeezed in our main lesson-- a re-telling of "The Woman who Fell from the Sky." Then we began drawing and writing the story in our new main lesson books.

I'm considering getting notebooks for the children to practice some cursive writing. Let me know if you're interested in that for your child.

Have a good week,
Lynn

P.S. I'll also put a plug in for the RAHA meeting on Wed. night, from 7:30-9:00- it's a "swap" night-- bring some educational things to give away, and maybe you'll find something neat to bring home. It's a nice way to meet RAHA members who might not otherwise cross your path.
