Advertising and history
Today we took an hour long class at Strong Museum on how food is marketed to kids and then we split up into groups and did an advertisement for different food groups. Ironically, Soren got put into the dairy group. For her part of the ad, she said that her sister Emma LOVES tapioca pudding LOL! How;s tht for a selling point?
We had lunch, then an hour and a half class on the decades. We went into the old style radio room and learned about the different sound effects and that music used to be played live during commercials and shows. Then we compared old ads to current ads.
Then, each group was assigned a decade and went out into the museum to find things from that decade and had to write a skit so that people could guess what decade they researched. Emma and Soren were in a group with 2 other girls. Emma did all the writing and a lot of the reading. Her printing has improved SO much! They did the '50s and I was so impressed with their skit. they pretended to be asking for toys (model cars from the 50s) and Legos (which were introduced in the 50s) and then talked about how their favorite music was Elvis Presley ;). Pretty fun stuff!
