LCG 11/2

Good evening folks,

Another day has passed with the effervescent evergreens.

We started a bit late-- please try to have your child to class a bit before 1:00 so we can start right at 1:00.

I'd just like to note here that I was actually early the last 2 weeks ;).

We did our opening, and some clapping games and bean bag games. We're working on our 3's times tables-- counting by 3's to 36. Then we did some singing.

We got to paint again today (thanks to paint parent Barb Guzik Hammond for helping set up). Our rhythm will be to paint every three weeks. We painted fall scenes of pumpkins today-- each pumpkin was unique. It was fun and interesting to see how each child came up with different shades based on how they combined colors.

Luckily Catherine Burke stopped by to visit, she was just in time to help clean up a paint spill.

And of course, the spiller of paint was....Emma!

At handwork time we got to serenade Melissa on her birthday. We are all knitting now. We had the children commit to a project. We also decided we will knit squares for a baby blanket. Catherine, who stayed to knit with us, is a midwife working with migrant workers. We will give her our finished blanket to give to a baby of one of her clients. I'm hoping we can finish this by February.

A lovely spontaneous thing happened at handwork-- one child started singing "Today" and everyone joined in and we sang one verse and the chorus. I think that is becoming our class' favorite song.

I know this is Emma's fave song! She sings it all the time and in such a pretty voice :).

We had lots of stories and sharing at snack, then did some jump roping in the room.

Then we moved to our main lesson. I actually shared my story about being burned in college-- a little pedagogical story to tell them about the dangers of open flames, which we often have at story time. Then I told the fable of "The Ant and the Grasshopper."

We finished a few minutes early to help with clean up.The teachers were able to have a nice extended time at our meeting to catch up on what is happening in each
class. We also try to gather before classes start-- it makes a real difference when we can take a moment together before we start our day. Sometimes you might see us in Lynne Kliman's room-- it's a lovely way to start our day.

Hope you have a good week.

Take care,
Lynn

P.S. Field trips! This class would like to do lots of them-- fine with me-- if parents want to do the organizing. The next one we've been talking about is the children's room (and "secret room") at the downtown library-- and hopefully we can see Mary Gleason there also. Barb GH-- Alyssa said you'd be willing to organize that? Let us know. Thanks
