LCG and such
I somehow deleted Emma's LCG note from this week, but they are starting cursive books and went to Soren's class to do bean bag games. They are also cleaning up the Willow class throughout October as part of their "community service." They are also crocheting and Emma learned how to crochet more than one row. She's *really* into it. It annoys me that I tried so hard to teach her to do it and she wouldn't (would NOT, not COULD not) learn from me and now is doing it so proficiently :P.
Soren is knitting like mad. She has knitted 20 rows!
Dear Parents and Friends,
We missed Sue and several children this week, due to travels and/or illness, but we had wonderful help from Cathleen Brauen and from Douglas' dad, Brian. While we gathered, children played Dominoes and other games and then we came together for our circle. We sang "Swinging Along the Open Road" and remembered all the details of our story from last
week, "The Fox and the Crow." Just then, Lynn Malooly and her Evergreen class joined us for songs, clapping games and bean-bag counting and rhythm games. That was a lively time, full of laughter. When they left, we settled down to illustrate and write about the fable in our Main Lesson books. We walked around the tables to see the foxes, crows, forests and pieces of cheese that we'd all drawn on our pages. We shared our snack along with some riddles and poems and listened to a chapter from George Macdonald's The Princess and the Goblin. Handwork came next, turning into calm, happy, productive minutes with Melissa, with almost everyone doing some knitting. We've also started a weaving project. At the end of day, Cathleen taught us a game. We had to be very, very quiet while one person , the warrior, was blind-folded and had to guess who took his fire sticks. Shhhh....
Then, after quick and hearty good-bye, we were out into the misty afternoon. Thanks to all who helped with the set-up and clean-up !
Warm Wishes,
Anne
and Sue
Today was Camp Arrowhead. They made cookies in a box and continue to work on Soren's play. Emma didn't get to climb. I didn't get anymore out of them, since they both ran to their respective rooms and starting knitting and crocheting!

Here's Lynn's note from this week:
-----------------------
Hello parents,
Another day has flown by.
We started with our new cursive notebooks-- these will be available when the children
first get to class-- to practice writing their names, or short poems I'll provide.
We worked on another mirror image form drawing-- practicing first on the chalkboard,
"walking" a drawn image on the floor, practicing drawing with our fingers and finally
drawing it with crayon on paper.
Then we went down to the Maple class to do our singing, movement and bean bag passing
with them. It was fun to share that time with them.
Back in our class we continued crocheting with Melissa. The children continue to make
progress.
We had another delicious snack, and then heard two new stories-- "How the Indians
Learned to Give" and "How Leaves Turn Red and Yellow." The children modelled beeswax
figures from the stories.
We finished with an old favorite game-- "The Big Wind Blows."
Then we headed down to help clean up in the Willow Room. We'll continue to do this for
October, then again in February.
Here is snack/clean-up through December. Barb Guzik-Hammond said she needs to switch
her December date.
If you can't make a date, or your child is out of class on a day you are scheduled,
PLEASE make arrangements for someone else to cover for you. Thanks.
