More and more spelling, oh my
Yesterday I was exhausted after a morning of visiting Lilac Children's Garden for Soren's open house, which went well, and then taking the girls to the yoga studio for a birth circle. They are such good babyminders, these two! Everyone wants to take them home to play with their babies, and it's funny, because it's not necessarily always that E & S approach the babies - babies are fascinated with them. In Soren's case, I think it's her hair. Anyway, they helped keep the yoga instructor's child busy, which was nice I think :). We'll see how involved they are with their OWN little brother in a couple of years!
Back to the open house, it was good. There was a questionnaire to fill out, which was pretty thoughtful - things like, Describe your child; What do you like best about your child?; Does your child have any food sensitivities? (which the public school doesn't seem to care about); Does your child have any issues or needs that we should know about - how is your child best comforted?
Things like that.
Anyway, we came home and had lunch and then they did life skills (i.e., cleaning their rooms and playroom), and then we all crawled into my bed for actual "lessons."
Soren did:
3 more reading comprehension stories
2-3 pages of printing sentences
spelling drills of words she had trouble with the other day. We decided to abandon "wouldn't" as she got very frustrated about it, and just couldn't understand why the apostrophe couldn't be replaced by an "i." Emma had much the same problem with "couldn't" but I beat it into her ;).
So we did mock spelling tests which we'll finish today, and then move on to new lists for next week.
Emma did:
3 pages of printing (she did an extra 2 pages of her own volition).
2 pages of cursive practice - she's now done a, c, and d and connected them.
spelling drills and pretest
That all took about an hour plus, so we tried to tackle a greek root, "tele," which was just too much for Soren, who melted down. Emma was still game, but we had to make dinner and get ready for TOPS for Emma, so I said we'd go back to it today, so that's what we'll start with. I need to remember that they need frequent breaks, even when they're on a roll.
I want to do some math with them today after the greek roots, and then we have a midwife appointment (science!) and a chiro appt (more science!) and then Emma has gymnastics practice tonight (PE!). No clue what we're doing this weekend other than waiting for more science (birth).
