LCG 3/15

Hello all,

We had a busy day yesterday.

We started with our usual openings, and then we did watercolor paintings of shamrocks-- (I've been in an Irish mood!). It was nice to paint again. The children did some beautiful work.

We spent a good portion of the day on our play, with two full run-throughs on the stage. We also went through the LCG collection of costumes. Most of the children brought home one or two tunics. Please send them back next week, in a bag with your child's name on it, so we can keep them in class.

Also-- would someone be willing to dye a few tunics? We need some brown ones for the brothers, and a grey one for a guard. For belts, we could use rope, or finger-knit chains if you have them.

We had two delicious snacks, then worked on a lovely flowing form drawing.

We squeezed in some work on our spring poem and some clapping games too.

We'll be taking a break from knitting for a bit. Next week we'll sew bean bags. If you have any fabric scraps to donate, please send them in.

Next week we'll end class at 3:00 for the spring equinox festival.



We have been hammering away at math this week. Soren is doing grouping of numbers within 10 to add strings of numbers more easily and Emma is doing long division. She is also learning the different symbols for division and that a fraction is also a kind of division.

She also learned how to distribute numbers w/in a problem (grouping) to make division easier. Like 200/4 could be same thing as 4 into (80 + 120) which is 20 + 30 which is 50.

Emma is almost done with her first cursive workbook and it's looking lovely. Soren's about 1/2 way through I'd say.

Emma is also doing some word problems and figuring out how math problems can be worded different ways and to read carefully!

We went to see James & the Giant Peach today at Nazareth College. It was pretty good! We also went to the science museum on Monday and did more with sounds and magnetism and illusions.
