LCG 11/30
Good evening all,
Today we had some visitors-- Lauren and Nora Sample got to be in class with us for a while, and my Michael also joined us for about an hour.
We started with our opening verse and song, and then did our clapping games. We moved right into the re-telling of "The Fox and the Grapes." Today we painted a picture from the story. We experimented with spraying our paper with water, so the colors would not be quite so runny, and we could work on the figure of the fox
with a bit more precision.
Those who finished early then sat with me to learn some new songs, while the painters listened-- "Down with Darkness" and "Deep Peace." We sang "Today" also.
Then Melissa came in for handwork, and we all continued with knitting. I am so impressed with the skill of the class. For the newer knitters, if they can knit a few rows each week between class, that will help them move along.
Then we had our snack, and the theme of stories told around the circle today were about drowning. We have some very dramatic story tellers!
Then Lila showed us a song with movement-- I recognized it from Wendy Burwell's Dances of Universal Peace, I think-- we had fun with that. I would love to do more dances with movement. If any parents have dances to share, please let me know. Then I sang a new song "Glory to the Mountain," and Erin was able to show us how
the movement with that song goes. We had a lot of fun with that song, and were all heated up by the end.
We cooled down with another mirror image form drawing. Then we finished the class with recorder-- re-visiting "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and then beginning work on "Glory to the Mountain." Some of the children are so adept at the recorder-- they are able to figure out songs quite quickly.
Reminder that Dec. 21 is the winter solstice celebration, from 3-5PM. Class will end by 3PM that day.
FIELD TRIP--
We are scheduled for our field trip to the downtown library this Friday, Dec. 3, at PM, I believe. Shall we meet in the lobby around 1:45?
Emma's doing great with knitting. She has quite a few rows knitted and it's something she's been sharing with Tom's mother, who knits all the time.
Soren sewed a gnome in her class and they had a lovely birthday celebration for her. The teacher went around the circle 6 times telling a story about how she came from heaven and got gifts from the other lights and sun, moon and stars, and then I shared something from each year of her life.
Emma had archery yesterday and it was very windy and rainy so they used some sort of arrow thrower. Emma had a blast. Today is music and tomorrow Soren has ballet. Sunday is Emma's second meet in Syracuse.
