Hi all,
Another lovely day inside the Evergreen classroom today...
We started with cursive, then our opening verse, then we sang ourselves down the hall to sing and play some games with the Maple Class. It was fun to teach them, and very fun to play with such a big group in a big, warm room.
Then we waltzed down to Fellowship Hall to learn a song with the two older classes that we will sing at Winter solstice.
It was nice for us to visit with both younger and older classes, and that set a nice tone for the day, reminding us that we are part of a larger community.
Back in class we worked on recorder, and are making nice progress on our songs, and on the new higher notes.
We did a quick listening exercise with partners. I like doing this with the children-- to help them practice listening, and to pair them up so that they might get to know each other individually.
Melissa (and Barb Hammond) came in for handwork. We are crocheting along, and have some new projects to work on. Feel free to join us.
We licked the bowls clean at snack (thanks Erin and Catherine), as we took turns sharing various animals and news.
Then we settled in with beeswax to hear a new story-- "The Man Bear," an Oneida tale, and create beeswax figures from it.
We finished with some movement games, including making a "human chain" that we had to untangle. We were unsuccessful the first time, and felt a great sense of accomplishment when we untangled ourselves the second time around. A quick "Let's Sing Glory to the Mountain" and then we were done.
We will be going some origami boxes in a few weeks-- if anyone has any watercolor paintings that you don't mind parting with, they would be great for making the boxes. You can send them in Dec. 6 or 13. Thanks.
I've lost my snack/clean-up list... but I think this is right for December-- let me know if you know otherwise--
Dec. 6-- Carlson
Dec. 13-- Hammond
Dec. 20-- Kilmer
Jan. 10-- Houk
Have a good week,
Lynn
